Certification and obtaining the eco-label (Eco Label)

The Type 1 Ecolabel (Eco Label) is a European mark of excellence awarded to products and services that comply with strict environmental standards throughout their life cycle. According to Regulation (EC) no. 66/2010, Order no. 1068/1652/2018 issued by the Ministry of Environment and the National Agency for Public Procurement and Law no. 69/2016 on green public procurement, respectively Order 1946/2024 on the approval of ecological criteria, obtaining the Eco Label certification is a legal requirement for producers who want to sell organic products, thus supporting a sustainable economy and environmentally friendly practices.

Eligible fields of activity:
The European Ecolabel covers 10 categories of goods and services, which include 24 groups (of goods and services) from different sectors of activity, for example:

  • Cleaning products and detergents;
  • Textiles and clothing;
  • Paper products;
  • Cosmetics and personal care products;
  • Office furniture and equipment, etc.;

and

  • a category of services, which includes 2 groups of services (services for tourist accommodation units and interior cleaning services).

Advantages of Eco Label certification

1. Legal compliance: Compliance with European and national legal requirements, avoiding sanctions and trade restrictions.

2. Increasing consumer confidence: The Eco Label guarantees buyers that the product or service is environmentally friendly, strengthening the brand’s reputation.

3. Access to new markets: Certified products are better received in international markets and in green public auctions.

4. Reducing environmental impact: Supporting sustainable practices in production and consumption.

5. Competitive advantage: Differentiation from the competition through a proven commitment to environmental protection.

Legal requirements and the need to obtain the Eco Label:

Products that obtain the Eco Label certification must meet strict environmental criteria, established by the European Commission, such as:

  • Reducing the consumption of natural resources and energy;
  • Limiting greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Use of recyclable materials and waste reduction;
  • Exclusion of hazardous chemicals, with harmful effects on water, air, soil; with a high risk of producing carcinogenic, allergic effects, etc.

Why is the Eco Label necessary?

In a world where consumers are increasingly aware of their impact on the environment, the Eco Label is becoming an essential tool for companies (manufacturers, importers, service providers, traders) who want to remain relevant and responsible. In addition, many public tenders and green procurement require the use of certified products.
